This article is for users who want to park a domain name using their hosting control panel here at Saratoga Hosting. NOTE - BEFORE you can park a domain using this method you must have the nameservers on the domain registration set to ours and make sure the domain is not already parked at your registrar.
Parking a domain is simply adding a new domain to your hosting account and giving you the ability to use it for one of the following example purposes:
1. Holding the domain and making it point to your master account domain.
2. Pointing the domain to another web site (using the Manage Redirection feature in the Parked Domains section of your cPanel).
DO NOT CREATE ADDON DOMAINS OF A PARKED DOMAIN, AND DO NOT CREATE SUBDOMAINS FOR A PARKED DOMAIN.
NOTE - DOMAINS CANNOT BE PARKED UNTIL THE NAMESERVERS ON THE DOMAIN REGISTRATION ARE SET TO OURS
EXAMPLES OF POSSIBLE USE:
- Let's say your master account domain is example.com and you just purchased another domain someotherexample.com and you just want someotherexample.com to automatically show visitors the content of example.com. Easy - just log in to your hosting control panel and click the "Parked Domains" icon and type in someotherexample.com into the space provided and click the add button. Done! As long as the nameservers for someotherexample.com are set to ours, visitors to someotherexample.com will automatically be shown the content of example.com
- Taking the above example a step further, you can use the Manage Redirection feature of a Parked Domain (as demonstrated in the video linked above) to not just point a domain to another web site, but to also show the domain name of the destination site (instead of the parked domain name) in the address bar of the browser. This is also considered a form of domain forwarding.
